MONARCH PROJECT By Barrionuevo Resilience: intimate and collective PROJECT OVERVIEW Monarch Project is a traveling immersive art installation connecting monarch migration with human experiences of movement, transformation, identity, and belonging. It combines installation, portraiture, and an evolving archive of participant stories and images. THE INSTALLATION The Monarch butterflies gives physical form to hope and resilience as hundreds of silk monarchs are suspended in flight, turning a room into a place of stillness and reflection. Each venue's architecture becomes part of the work. At Hospital of Emotions, it lives in a patient room, where a hospital bed becomes a place to reflect on the fragile moments when something inside us changes. LA MARIPOSA MONARCA A photographic project containing more than 500 immigrant portraits. Selected portraits appear within the installation, each carrying a personal journey. THE LIVING ARCHIVE Portrait sessions and a growing wall of stories and images bring local participants into the work as it travels from city to city. EXHIBITIONS & COLLABORATIONS Intended exhibition contexts include museums, galleries, universities, and cultural institutions. A hosting conversation can consider the exhibition context, available space, intended audience, and possibilities for local participation. Installation requirements, exhibition dates, image selection, and participant programming are to be developed with the project team.
